Count-Down to the Summer Knitting Olympic Trials

Hi Team Alaska Knitters! The 2008 Summer Olympics are just around the corner. Of course, this provides an opportunity for all of us Team Alaska Knitters-In-Training for the 2010 Winter Knitting Olympics to challenge ourselves in the 2008 Summer Knitting Olympic Trials. As you know from the past 2006 Winter Knitting Olympics, Team Alaska is for Knitters who live in, or have lived in, Alaska, or have been formally designated an “honorary Alaskan”.

It’s just about time to choose a pattern and appropriate yarn, and get ready to cast on during the Opening Ceremony on August 8. As with the Winter Knitting Olympics, the goal is to do your best to finish your project by the Closing Ceremony on August 24, and have fun doing it! As these are “trials”, if you don’t finish, it’s not the end of the world. In fact, if you are one of those Team Alaska members who participated in the 2006 Knitting Olympics but didn’t finish your project by the closing ceremony, this could help you gauge the type of project that is best suited for you, in terms of time, when it comes to participating in the 2010 Knitting Olympics.

If you’re on the blog already, please post and let us know what you’re thinking of knitting. I haven’t decided yet, myself, but have some ideas - socks, a sweater, and Norwegian-style mittens are all possibilities for me. And if you have a friend who might like to join us in the "Trials", please have them email me (lfy AT acsalaska DOT net), as Team Alaska Knitters are by invitation. New members will be accepted only through August 7.
